Introduction to Soundcraft Mixers

In this series of articles, we will be exploring the setup process for the highly sought-after Soundcraft Ghost 32 mixer. As professionals in the audio industry, setting up a new console can seem daunting at first glance. However, with some patience and knowledge of basic mixing principles, you'll be able to master your new soundboard in no time.

Choosing Your Mixer

Before we dive into the setup process itself, let's talk about why many live sound engineers choose Soundcraft mixers over their competitors. With years of experience under their belts, Soundcraft has developed a range of consoles that are both powerful and easy-to-use.

In this particular article, we'll be looking at the newly acquired Ghost 32 mixer which replaces our trusty old Model 1624 (more on that later). But first things first - let's take a closer look inside...

The Console

Our new console features an impressive array of inputs/outputs to cater for even the most demanding live sound requirements. With 32 microphone preamp channels available across two main frames plus eight additional mic/line inputs via a dedicated sidecar unit, there really isn't much you won't be able to connect up.

Each channel on our Ghost 24 features three parametric EQ bands per frequency range (low-mid-high), phase reverse switchable Neutrik XLR connectors with phantom power engage switches and defeatable -20dB/-40dB input gain pots. There are also eight more mic/line inputs available via the aforementioned sidecar unit, bringing the total number of analogue I/Os up to an impressive 56.

Out on the back panel we find sixteen balanced main outputs (with individually switchable +48 phantom power), plus twenty-four line monitor buss outs - ideal for feeding your stage monitors and/or FOH mixing desk. And if that wasn't enough, our Ghost also boasts a healthy complement of digital I/O options too...

As mentioned earlier, the Model 1624 has now been retired from service with us to make way for its younger sibling. Here's what we had to say about it back in :
