Scott Pilgrim vs The World: A Throwback Gaming Experience

For fans of retro gaming who missed out on the original releases, Scott Pilgrafts' 8-bit inspired beat-em-up is now available again – this time in high definition. Originally released for PS3 and Xbox360 back in the day (yes, that far back), Ubisoft has seen fit to bring the classic title over to PC once more.

What Is It About This Game?

For those who might be unfamiliar with Scott Pilgrim or indeed video games from a bygone era, allow me some quick context. The game is based on Bryan Lee OMalley's graphic novel series of the same name – which in turn was inspired by real-life experiences living through adolescence as a young adult artist.

Scott Pilgrims' story follows our titular hero (no surprise there) as he attempts to win over his crush Ramona Flowers, played here by Ellen Wong. However, things aren't quite so straightforward; you see that before they can even think about getting cozy under the covers together without any interruptions from pesky exes trying to ruin their special moment together with violence galore!

To make matters worse still there are SEVEN EVIL EXES standing between them and happiness ever after - each one more menacing than last when faced off against alone but lucky for Scott he has got some awesome friends at his side ready to help out whenever needed so let's dive right into action shall we?

Gameplay Wise

The gameplay itself is pretty standard fare – think Streets of Rage meets Super Mario Bros. minus all the fun and charm, unfortunately. You'll spend most of your time mashing buttons while occasionally pausing to collect some power-ups or health before continuing on your merry way through hordes upon hordes of generic looking enemies.

Graphically speaking things aren't much better either; it looks like something straight outta a PS1 emulator running at sub-HD resolutions which might not exactly impress modern gamers who are used to seeing titles that look more akin to AAA triple A productions than rehashes from yesteryear.

Audio wise, however, there's some decent retro chiptune tracks thrown into the mix courtesy of Anamanaguchi and Crystal Castles amongst others so at least you won't be subjected to a constant stream of repetitive background music throughout your playthroughs.

In conclusion then if you're looking for something simple yet nostalgic to kill an hour or two with on a lazy Sunday afternoon without breaking the bank (it's only $9.99 after all!), Scott Pilgrim vs The World might just tick those boxes for you. Just don't expect too much in terms of depth, complexity or indeed actual gameplay innovation – this is pure retro nostalgia territory here folks!
